Pearl Jam Ten Game

On March 24, 2009, Epic/Legacy Recordings will release re-issues of Pearl Jam's Ten in four different packages, including a double LP with the album remastered on one record and remixed by Brendan O'Brien on the other. In gearing up for the release, they've created a game that allows you to preview some of the material. It's a little tough to get the hang of, but fairly fun once you get it.

These guys have gotten pretty gimmicky. This is the only album of theirs I will admit to enjoying immensely and now they make a nonsense game out of it. Waylaid pretense if you ask me.

I doubt the band has much to do with this. They've actually done a pretty good job of running their career their own way, but I doubt they have control over this kind of marketing. Little promotional games are just a cheap way to get people to pay attention. I can't say I'm thrilled with it, but generally the games are fun enough for a little bit.

I think Ten is their only great record. The next two were decent and then they lost me after that. I can't say I've heard anything from them that I hated, but nothing all that memorable either. Still, Ten alone is enough to justify their existence.

A remaster as well as a remix, huh? I can always get behind a remaster, but "listen to it filtered through this other guy's slightly differing sensibilities" is a waste of everyone's time and money and materials. Lame.
