Styx is one thing, but...

Maybe there are limits to even the guilty pleasure. I think American Idol probably steps over the line. Is that really music? Probably no more so than Milli Vanilli.

Oh, dude, I couldn't agree more. It's horrendous. And I had a whole post devoted to the allure of "reality television" that Blogger ate, which resulted in the "Technology Sucks" post instead. I discussed the appeal of a show like "American Idol." Simply: it is nothing more than the Springer Syndrome in tight pants, singing terrible versions of otherwise wonderful Stevie Wonder songs.

Seconded.

Please tell me how singing karaoke somehow makes a person worthy of idolatrous worship. What the hell is wrong with this country? Who's supporting this crap? Maybe these kids just need to get themselves a copy of Karaoke Revolution. Works for me. Then again, I don't want to be "famous".

If the networks insist on having some kind of new-fangled Star Search, they could at least make it more of a "Battle of the Bands" and showcase people who actually have talent - whether it be playing instruments or songwriting or whatever.

But why would we reward people based on talent?
